Bio Bags
Bio bags have one of the worst product names that I have encountered in recent memory. The first thought that is conjured up in my head when I hear the term bio bags involves a scene from the movie Fight Club wherein the two protagonists steal fat from a liposuction clinic. The fat is stored in large clear plastic bags with a biohazard logo on the front.
I am assuming that this is not exactly the scene the marketers of bio bags would like their customers to envision. They would likely much rather the customer focuses on the ecological benefits of bio bags as compared to their plastic counterparts. Bio bags offer biodegradability which is not possible for regular plastic bags. Bio bags are therefore healthier and more ecological friendly alternatives to plastic bags and should be strongly considered to replace the old technology of plastics.
Bio bags use a new kind of technology which allows for biodegradable plastics. This not only helps the environment but the economy as well. Bio bags require more advanced processing which means more jobs for those who process and manufacture them. These are jobs that were not available prior to the advent of this technology.
It will still be a long time before we can imagine a world without plastic grocery bags at the checkout counters at our local supermarkets. I know that I would be personally upset if these were no longer available even though I know it would be more beneficial to the environment. Maybe in a little while these bio bags will be widespread and practical enough to replace the old plastics industry for bags and allow for both convenience and biological responsibility for the mainstream consumers.
